Every year on World Suicide Prevention Day, we pause to reflect on a reality that touches so many lives. Suicide is not just a statistic—it represents individuals, families, friends, and communities impacted by deep pain and loss. It also represents a call to action: to listen, to care, and to connect.
At the Central West Ontario Health Team (CW OHT), we believe that no one should ever feel they have to struggle alone. Across our region, our partners are working every day to bring mental health, addiction, and community supports closer to home. Organizations like the Canadian Mental Health Association Peel-Dufferin provide 24/7 crisis services, ensuring that help is always within reach.
But support doesn’t end there. Whether it’s a young person reaching out to Kids Help Phone, a member of the LGBTQ2S+ community connecting with Trans Lifeline, or someone calling the Suicide Crisis Helpline (9-8-8), every conversation matters. Each one is a step toward hope and healing.
This World Suicide Prevention Day, we encourage you to :
- Check in with those around you—sometimes a simple conversation can make a world of difference.
- Share resources so others know where to turn.
- Reach out for help if you are struggling—because asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, please call or text 9-8-8, or dial 9-1-1 in an emergency. You can also explore trusted supports on our website.
Together, let’s build a community where every person feels seen, supported, and valued. Connection can save lives.
